tito and tita picAs the online world is bombarded with #GivingTuesday, we would like to say thank you to a special family in Austin, Texas.

On November 2, 2017, the correspondents began and continued over the course of almost a month. At the other end, I would come to know Carmen and her family. Her first communication went on to say, “I just want to be sure to donate to the solution that would be most helpful at that time and would be a longer-term solution. It will not be a huge donation, but our kids want to be sure their donation will be used well.”

She like many others want to know their donations are being put to good use and getting directly to the people of Puerto Rico. The Huston family got to work planning a fundraiser. In addition to, confirming our efforts of delivery water filters to the island would not cease before their money was raised. When their first scheduled event was hampered by scheduling conflicts, that did not stop them! They persevered, holding an open house on November 19 serving up Carmen’s mother’s Arroz Con Pollo and Puerco Asado. The food was delicious, and the event was a success, raising $1250 to send more water filters to Puerto Rico!

While the Huston family feel their donation is not much, I am here to assure them it makes a HUGE difference! With our most profound gratitude, Thank you. Carmen’s parents are now back in Puerto Rico. They currently live in Dorado and are originally from San Juan and Ponce. Carmen when on to share her grandfather was from Corozal, and she has many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family throughout the island.
